Pimm tells us:

"A few days off in Florida allow the band to continue to recover after the debacle in Los Angeles. Snippets of Singing in the Rain are included in Two Hearts Beat as One. I Fall Down is interrupted because of heavy pushing in the front. 'You see the white flags that we have at the back of the stage? That means nobody gets hurt when we play.' It's a hot night in Florida and the airconditioning isn't at its best. 'Have you any air to breathe down there?' Bono asks during the encore. "Well, if you have, just breathe it this way, OK?"

This concert starts off with what was presumably a local DJ hyping up the crowd with his introduction...the quality is pretty good, maybe 4 to 4.5/5, so wonder if this was a radio broadcast someone taped, or just a pretty nice audience recording. Justin mentions a conversion performed by Dana Fletcher from cassette, so maybe he knows more about this...Justin describes his version as "...almost sounds like there was a blanket over the taper's microphones. Audience noise is virtually non-existent" -- The versions on achtungbootlegs.com and at Justin's site have this one one cd, with Cat Dubh and Into the Heart as a single track...my version, and the one for which Lars made cover art (available at the archives) has this as a two disc version, 9/8 track split, and Cat Dubh/Into the Heart separated. Although one could potentially combine these and overburn into an 80 minute disc, I decided it would be easier for most to just post this as a two cd set.

There is a two second glitch at 2:56 of Electric Co.

Based on the knowledge of the played songs, the order can be easily recognized. 'Every Breaking Wave' is listed as the twelfth song a second time on this list.

Notes:
+ To follow the original setlist, the transitions had to be completely redesigned. This was not easy to arrange because even the source material was partially cut wrong.

This is one probably in the collections of many, but if not, it's a great starter for my planned series of early U2 to post here...

U2 played several dates at McGonagle's in Dublin in June, 1979, and this disc contains eight tracks from one of those nights...plus, a hodgepodge of other items, some of which were recently shared in Propaganda's amazing Boy era 9 gb torrent...the sound quality on these is just terrific...unfortunately, somebody did not include track 20 (Rejoice) on my disc, so if someone else here has that last track, maybe they could seed it so the cover art will match the disc contents.

This concert is interesting from several standpoints:

1.  Pimm has nothing to say about it.  He describes details from the first, second, fourth and fifth shows, nothing about this third show.
2.  There appears to be no complete version of this bootleg in circulation.  In fact, although this PROBABLY is from September 6th, the bootleg (vinyl source named All Fall Down) has cuts between the songs, making it difficult to be certain about dating...but the best reference we have for clarification, at this url:

clearly indicates that this disc is one and the same as what is thought to be September 6th.

According to the setlist archive, however, the setlist from this concert should have been:

So, for now, we will have to consider this a bit of a mystery, though all sites report this to be the September 6, 1984 show.  Of course, since we presume that we have the bulk of serious U2 bootleg collectors in our group here at U2T, if anyone has any more information to clarify this, it would be great.
3.  Justin's review is insightful:  "The band is obviously still uncomfortable with performing tracks from the new album live, as one look at the songs on this bootleg clearly indicate -- the only song from The Unforgettable Fire album is Pride."
4.  There must have been some original cover art to go with the vinyl, but none of our usual resources indicate that cdr version art has yet been made.

My version does, unfortunately, have a few seconds of muddy sound beginning at 1:42 of Sunday Bloody Sunday...if anyone else has this one and has a lower generation copy without this defect, possibly they would be willing to seed that one track.

This is another in my long line of cdr's obtained in trade, unknown lineage, definitely lossless per the FA to be posted.

Comment:

This first concert of the European Leg of the tour
is set in the Halle Tony Garnier Lyon,
who welcomes the opportunity to 17.000 spectators.

Curiously, after the intro of 4th of July,
the group chose to open the concert with MLK,
whose sweetness is not fitting clearly in this place.

After the concerts given in Australia and New Zealand,
priority is given to title the new album,
 including the worldwide release was conducted on 1 October 1984.
The public is more in tune with the older titles that he knows much more,
including through the video Under A Blood Red Sky.
This is especially true of Sunday Bloody Sunday on which many white flags fluttering.

This concert will also hear the first live Bad.
The sequencer and guitar of The Edge seem to be difficult to implement.
The "Wide Awake" which will later yelled, almost whispers are here by Bono.

NOTE: This bootleg features good clarity. However, the sound isn't as crisp and full
as it is on the best recordings from the first European leg of this tour.
The music and vocals are somewhat distant and the overall sound is a bit thin.
 Also, the recordings plays a little fast. There are small pops between the tracks.

I think it is only one hearing this record shows, I'm about to possess in audi k7 tape,
 a little listening to make sure it's the same source, is needed.

NOTE:
This show sounds pretty good - G/VG Audience - but relatively clear.  The bass is prominent in the recording, but not overpowering.  Outside of a couple of conversations, crowd noise is not a problem.  This is the only recording I know of, and it was seeded here before in 2006.  There is a brief fade between Sunday Bloody Sunday and Cry/The Electric Co, and a very slight edit between Pride and A Sort of Homecoming.  Another early show from the European leg of the UF tour.

This is probably conservatively graded as an A-  audience recording...there is cover art at the archive which shows nine tracks on disc 1 (does not have the Intro as track 1, and ends with The Cry-Electric Co., and nine tracks on disc  2 (Bad through "40" with no listing for the Clannad outro track).

"Slowly but surely the new show begins to take shape; in Bordeaux a full 18-song set is played.  MLK has returned, after its unfortunate premiere in Lyon.  Bad still sounds rickety because Bono cannot handle the demanding "I'm wide awake" part, while Indian Summer Sky lacks the edge it has on record.

"The band checked out the town the previous night and stumbled on a fun fair.  "There was this big wheel, and we went to the top of it and could see all over the city of Bordeaux," Bono says excitedly, implying that usually they have no time for such outings.  "When you travel a lot, you go in and out of hotels, another room, more people and more people, you just forget that...."  He stammers, realizing this is a problem that fans will have difficulty relating to.  "We've a pretty job actually.   Well, this is for some of you who maybe don't feel so good, but I'm sure you will -- this is a song called 40.  Comprenez moi?"

JEMS marked its 34th year recording U2 by heading north from our home base to opening night show in Vancouver. The month of rehearsals at Pacific Coliseum definitely paid off as the band was better prepared than has often been the case on opening nights (see Las Vegas 1997).

Speaking to Tapeboy by phone last night, he was struck by how the show began with one powerful rock song after another, which drove the energy of the show high from the start. He also said the distributed PA that rings the arena did make for very good sound leading to something rare at indoor shows these days: it was loud.

The new material, not surprisingly, sounds more compelling from the stage, which in and of itself is said to be a marvel, save for its lack of safety railings (if you haven't seen The Edge's Instagram this morning, he is OK, save for a big scrape on his arm).

Biggest surprise of the night was "Desire." Brother Ken was also there, and he pointed to that song, "Bullet the Blue Sky," "Invisible" and "Until The End of The World" as his highlights; the latter closed "the first set," though plans for a more formal intermission were apparently abandoned. In its place were five minutes or so of videos that bridge from "Until" to "Invisible."

There are sure to be other recordings and some of the real pros are up there too doing their magic, but for now, here's JEMS' capture.
